A Report of "Open Forum"
Department of English
Date: 05.12.2019
Does Gender Matter for Violence
Department of English organised an open forum
on the topic "Does Gender Matter for Violence" against the backdrop
of rape incident in Hyderabad, on Thursday 5th Dec.2019, in NB I.
Students expressed their different views on the
topic. Such kind of violence is a blot to society. For prevention of those
incidents the mindset of the society must be changed and the change should
begin from the family itself. Instead of restrictions, girls should be empowered
by providing them self defense skills such as martial art, swimming, karate etc.
Justice is more important than equality. Girls should be supported, guided and
trained properly for their own defense.
Besides
parents, social media, police force, Government should stand unanimously by the
girls and the victimised to make the nation strong. Some of the participants
asserted that the girls or women should not travel alone in deserted region. If
they have to go there, they should take benefit of GPS tracker, Whatsapp etc.
It also opined that equal status, time, justice
is not given in the family to girls in many families. Hence girls should be
respected, honoured in the family and society. Media and various programmes
displayed on media are really disgusting, they affect worst on the mindset of
children. Criminals should be punished immediately.
On the occasion, Mrs. Vidya Kamane introduced
different safety apps useful for women. Shake to Safety, My Safetipin, bsafe,
Raksha, Spirit family locater app etc. She suggested internet should be always
on, which will be helpful to the girls in deserted area. Miss Sheetal Pawar
expressed that for prevention of such incidents awareness must be created among
the girls, families and society.
Miss Shruti Gokani asserted everyone should be
treated equally. Similarly along with girls many times boys are also victimised
but such crimes are neglected.
Dr.Leelawati Patil organised the forum to make
students aware of special injustice, and their responsibility towards society.
The event also aimed to make students express themselves freely, frankly and
confidently.
The event proved to be a success as nearabout
40 students were participated and freely shared their views.
